Although Pennsylvania does not have the high cliffs such as the Shawangunks, Seneca Rocks or the White Mountains, we do have many natural and man-made outcrops to practice our sport for the big ones. The more popular sites include:
Bellefonte Quarries, abandoned limestone quarries at Bellefonte, Centre Co. (Currently closed, Access Fund / c3pa project) The Climbing Conservency of Central Pennsylvania (c3pa) is currently working to find a solution to this problem. Please refrain from climbing at Bellefone and let this organization work to protect and to ensure legal access to the quarries.
Coburn and Pinnacle Rocks, quartzite pinnacles near Coburn, Centre Co.
Big Rock Vista, large sandstone boulders, Sproul State Forest, Clinton Co.
Donation Rocks, natural sandstone outcrops, Huntington Co.
Hunters Rocks, popular bouldering area, Huntington Co.
Ravensburg State Park, sandstone cliffs and pinnacles, Lycoming Co.
Proper equipment and instruction are essential as climbing is a hazardous sport and knowledge minimizes risk.
